In many different industries, neodymium magnets are considered the strongest magnets available. For this reason, these magnets are often used in applications that require higher magnetic strength or where weight or size is critical.

The first characteristic of neodymium magnets to be examined is their composition. They are named after the element neodymium, which is a member of the "rare earth" element family. Of course, neodymium is the main material in these magnets, but it is not the only element present. They are made of an alloy mainly composed of neodymium, iron and boron. This forms the Nd2Fe14B tetragonal crystal structure. It is this unique composition and crystal structure that affects the unique magnetic properties of the new magnet.

Due to its unique magnetism, neodymium magnets are the strongest magnets

Permanent magnets all have different magnetic properties. Then use these features to compare various types of magnets. Here, we will discuss some of the most important magnetism:

Remanence (Br)-measures the magnetic flux density retained after magnetization

Coercivity (Hci)-the resistance to demagnetization of magnetic materials

(Maximum) Energy Product (BH)max — the quality factor of how much potential magnetic energy is available per unit volume in the grade/material type.

Neodymium magnets have extremely high remanence and (BH)max, which means they have a high-strength magnetic field. In addition, the new magnets have high coercivity, which means they are extremely resistant to demagnetization. Combined, these magnetisms can produce extremely powerful magnets.

As a way to visualize the strength of neodymium magnets, please observe that the maximum energy product range of sintered neodymium magnets is 200 to 400kJ/m3. In contrast, the maximum energy product of another permanent magnet Al-Ni-Co alloy is only 10-88 kJ/m3. This is a significant difference in power. Neodymium magnets are much stronger than AlNiCo magnets.

The benefits of powerful new magnets

Compared with other types of magnets such as ceramics, alnico and samarium-cobalt magnets, the high strength of the new magnets gives them many advantages. Neodymium magnets are ideal for applications where space is limited because they can provide greater strength in a more compact size. Examples of applications for choosing new space-saving magnets include consumer applications such as magnetic sensors and switches, cell phones and speakers, and magnetic components for industrial applications.

Neodymium magnets have excellent strength, which is the key to supporting new technologies and innovations.
